This is an online course to help you prepare for interpreting in primary care or medical specialty encounters. You have 4 weeks to complete this course.
For Level 1 and Level 2 Interpreters:
Level 1: Beginner Interpreters
Level 2: For experienced or certified interpreters who want to learn more about medical concepts. Level 2 interpreters are required to complete the sight translation and consecutive interpreting activities.
This is a language-neutral course for all languages.However, there are exercises to give you opportunity to practice sight translation and consecutive interpreting in your language pair. You will be recording your sight translation and consecutive interpreting activities for further professioanal development.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define the most common procedures involved in diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of 10 body systems. (120 minutes)
2. 3. Demonstrate understanding of medical concepts of the 10 selected procedures in more detail. (60 minutes)
4. Practice sight translation and consecutive interpreting and self-identify areas for improvement. (55 minutes).
5. Relate how knowledge of the specialized terminology will enhance the interpreter's professional practice. (5 minutes)
Part 1 is description of the most common medical treatments and procedures for each body system. There are at least 80 procedures/treatments/devices described in this lesson.
Part 2 is a more detailed discussion of 10 selected procedures including patient preparation audios/videos for sight translation and consecutive interpreting practice.

Please note: There is no refund once the course is accessed. You may be given additional time for completion if there are technical difficulties.
Log in times are tracked and documented by the learning management system.
Participant are expected to spend the awarded contact hours on the learning activities and to claim credit only for the time spent on the course. Some participants may need more time than others, depending on their background knowledge base.
Presentation times are approximate only as participants are free to review and repeat the presentations and the sight translation/consecutive interpreting activities as many times as needed in order to understand the concepts.
In order to receive a certificate, the participant must pass the quizzes/exams with 80% grade. The quizzes/exams may be taken twice.
Technical Requirement: Windows 10, newest Firefox Browser, with AdobeFlashplayer, audio and video capability. Iphone and Ipads or mobile devices are not supported, although you may be able to view some features, you would not be able to complete all of the lessons using mobile phone devices.
