NEW: Coronavirus (COVID-19): A Course for Interpreters (2-Hours)

This course is open to all interpreters.
This is a 2-hour online course with a recorded webinar that was presented on March 15, 2020.
To receive credit for this course, the participant needs to attend the webinar or view the webinar presentation online, in addition to completing all learning activities.
The other parts of the course will be completed online.
Learning Objectives:
1. Define what is the new (novel) coronavirus, the medical term for the virus and the infection caused by the virus. 10 min.
2. Describe signs and symptoms of infection. 10 min.
3. Explain recommended precautions for the public to prevent infection. 10 min.
4. List people who are at risk for infection. 10 min.
5. Explain precautions for healthcare workers and medical interpreters (PPE, Droplet and Airborne Precautions) 60 min. (This part was presented on Sunday, March 15, 2020 as a webinar. The recording is available online as part of the course.)
6. Demonstrate understanding of concepts by completing a translation and interpreting exercise and self-evaluation. (20 min.)

Instructions:
- Log in times are tracked and documented by the learning management system.
- Participants are expected to spend the awarded contact hours on the learning activities and to claim credit only for the time spent on the course. Some participants may need more time than others, depending on their background knowledge base.
- Presentation times are approximate only as participants are free to review and repeat the presentations and the sight translation/consecutive interpreting activities as many times as needed in order to understand the concepts.
- In order to receive a certificate, the participant must pass the quizzes/exams with 80% grade. The quizzes/exams may be taken twice.
- Participants are responsible for confirming if this course is appropriate for their training and professional goals.
- Technical Requirement: Windows 10, newest Firefox Browser, with AdobeFlashplayer, audio and video capability. Iphone and Ipads or mobile devices are not supported, although you may be able to view some features, you would not be able to complete all of the lessons using mobile phone devices.
