This is an online course to help you prepare to interpret in neurology and pulmonology encounters. You have 4 weeks to complete this course.
For Level 1 and Level 2 Interpreters:
Level 1: Beginner Interpreters.
Level 2: For experienced or certified interpreters who want to learn more about medical concepts.

The participant will gain improved understanding of the anatomy and medical terminology for major diseases, diagnostic procedures and treatments beyond the basic level by participating in the learning activties that include Powerpoint presentations, audio recordings for listening practice, videos for interpreting practice, and at least two tests to help enhance comprehension and improve retention of the information.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, the participant would be able to:
- Describe the major parts of the nervous system and how they function related to specific diseases.
- Explain the difference between procedures such as electromyography (EMG) and encephalography (EEG).
- Explain the difference between diagnoses such meningitis and encephalitis, paraplegia, quadriplegia, hemiplegia.
- Explain the difference between CT Scan, MRI and PET scan.
- Explain the different types of stroke and their symptoms.
- Practice sight translation and consecutive interpreting for procedures EMG and EEG and stroke assessment.
- Describe the major parts of the respiratory system and how they function related to specific diseases.
- Explain the difference between diagnoses such as asthma and pneumonia, pharyngitis and laryngitis.
- Explain the difference between procedures such as laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy.
- Practice sight translation and consecutive interpreting for asthma, pneumonia and bronchoscopy.
