This is an online course to help you prepare to interpret in Gastroenterology and Endocrinology encounters. You have 4 weeks to complete this course.
For Level 1 and Level 2 Interpreters:
- Level 1: Beginner Interpreters
- Level 2: For experienced or certified interpreters who want to learn more about medical concepts.
This is a language-neutral course for all languages.However, there are exercises to give you opportunity to practice sight translation and consecutive interpreting in your language pair.

The participant will gain improved understanding of the anatomy and medical terminology for major diseases, diagnostic procedures and treatments beyond the basic level by participating in the learning activties that include Powerpoint presentations, audio recordings for listening practice, videos for interpreting practice and quizzes/exams to help enhance comprehension and improve retention of the information.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, the participant would be able to:
- Describe the anatomy of the digestive and endocrine systems related to specific diseases and procedures. (1 Hour)
- Explain the difference between diagnoses such as gastritis, colitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, hepatitis. (30 Minutes)
- Explain the difference between surgeries such as appendectomy, colectomy, cholecystectomy, laparoscopy, colonoscopy. (30 Minutes)
- Explain what is diabetes and the different types of diabetes. (30 minutes)
- Practice interpreting what is diabetes, what is insulin. Practice interpreting for patient instructions for blood sugar testing. (30 Minutes)
