This is an online course to help you prepare for interpreting in medical encounters in urology and gynecology. You have 4 weeks to complete this course.
For Level 1 and Level 2 Interpreters:
Level 1: Beginner Interpreters
Level 2: For experienced or certified interpreters who want to learn more about medical concepts.
This is a language-neutral course for all languages.However, there are exercises to give you opportunity to practice sight translation and consecutive interpreting in your language pair.

The participant will gain improved understanding of the anatomy and medical terminology for major diseases, diagnostic procedures and treatments beyond the basic level by participating in the learning activties that include Powerpoint presentations, audio recordings for listening practice, videos for interpreting practice and quizzes/exams to help enhance comprehension and improve retention of the information.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, the participant would be able to explain:
- 1. The major parts of the male and female reproductive systems and their function related to specific diseases. (30 minutes)
2. What is the difference between hysterectomy, salpingectomy and oophorectomy. (15 minutes)
3. What is the difference between endometriosis, ovarian cysts and fibroids. (15 minutes)
4. What is the difference between circumcision and vasectomy. (15 minutes)
5. What is vaginal, abdominal and laparoscopic hysterectomy, different types of hysterectomies. (15 minutes)
6. What is the difference between UTI and BPH. (15 minutes)
7. What is the difference between ochidectomy and prostatectomy. (15 minutes)
8. Major parts of the urinary system and their function related to specific diseases. (30 minutes)
9. Practice interpreting for a patient information on hysterectomy. (15 minutes)
10. Practice interpreting patient instructions on circumcision and vasectomy. (15 minutes)
11. Practice interpreting patient instructions on UTI. (15 minutes)
Instructions:
- Log in times are tracked and documented electronically by the learning management system (LMS).
- Each module must be completed before the LMS allows access to the next module. If any previous module/lesson is incomplete, the LMS would not allow access to the next module.
- Certificates are automatically generated upon completion of all required learning activities as tracked by the LMS, including presentations (Powerpoint, audios, videos), short quizzes and/or exams.
- Participants may log in at any time during a 24-hour period and may spend as many hours as needed to complete each course. The participant has 4 weeks to complete the course from date of registration.
- Participants are expected to spend the minimum number of awarded continuing education hours on the learning activities and to claim credit only for the approved number of hours. In order for the certificate to be valid, all learning activities must be completed. Culture Advantage reserves the right to conduct random review of participant's electronic record of attendance.
- Some courses may include audios and videos and may require participants to submit audios and/or written assignments for demonstration of achievement of learning objectives.
- Some participants may need more time than others, depending on their background knowledge base.
- Participants are free to review and repeat the presentations and any other activities as many times as needed to complete the course. Once the course is completed, they would no longer have access to the course.
- To receive a certificate of completion, the participant must pass the quizzes/exams with 80% grade. The quizzes/exams may be taken twice. The LMS does not allow downloading of certificates without completing ALL of the modules of the course and without passing the quizzes/exams with at least 80% grade.
- Participants are responsible for confirming if this course is appropriate for their training and professional goals.
- Technical Requirement: Windows 10, newest version of Firefox Browser, Google Chrome or IE, with AdobeFlashplayer, audio and video capability. Iphone and Ipads or mobile devices are not supported, although you may be able to view some features, you would not be able to complete all of the learning activities using mobile phone devices.

- (This course requires computer and Internet literacy: Ability to follow links, download files, open new windows, view videos and listen to audios, etc. If the participant is not familiar with these tasks, they should plan on spending more time on the course. Participants are strongly encouraged NOT to wait until the last days of the 4-week time period to start taking the course. The limit for course access remains 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, the access to the course expires.)
